Juanita Sanchez headed to D3 girls basketball final

Juanita Sanchez will be making its first title appearance in the program's
eight-year history after pulling out a thrilling 53-49 nailbiter over North
Smithfield in the Division III girls basketball semifinals.

Sandy Kun scored a game-high 29 points, including six three-pointers,
while D'Asia Allen netted 18 for the Cavaliers, who will play Middletown
in the Division III final, Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ryan Center.

Central clinched the last spot in the boys basketball state tournament
Final Four with an 83-77 overtime victory over Classical in the East
Regional final here at PC's Alumni Hall.

Narragansett had four players score in double figures as it opened
up a 30-20 halftime lead and went on to defeat Scituate, 69-48, in the
quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs at Bay View Academy. Mercedes
Harris led all scorers with 19 points, Abby McKanna had 14 and
Chelsea Sahagian and Jackie Ianucci each had 12 to lead the
Mariners, who will face Moses Brown/East Greenwich in the semis
Tuesday at Rhode Island College. Scituate freshman Sadie Ross
ed the Spartans with 17 points and teammate Chloe Corsi added
13 points. The Spartans got to within six-points (38-32) halfway
through the second half before the Mariners pulled away.

Davida Dale
, Dakota Daley-Harris and Ariel Etheridge combined to
 score 32 point as La Salle moves closer to a perfect season with a
69-19 win over Chariho in Division I-South. The Rams are currently
17-0 and will end the regular season with a home contest vs. Coventry
on Friday.

After trailing 31-28 at the half, the Blue Wave led by Ivy Rodriquez
with 15 points, 13 in 2nd half, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals
and Johnson Weah with 3 points, 3 blocks, 3 steals and 7 rebounds
to give Hope a 72-50 win over Portsmouth in I-East. Wayne
Andrew-Clements
had 20 points and Manny Kargbo added 13 for the
Blue Wave. Evan Hole had 15 and Matt Occhi added 11 for the Patriots.

Mary Keough scored 12 points with two 3-pointers to lead Classical
over Central Falls, 40-33, in Division II-North. Geriah Balbirsingh pitched
in another nine points for the Purple who are 13-4. The Warriors are 9-7.

Ben Bradley had 18 points and Mitch Baxter had 16 and Dylan Boisclair
 added 14 to lead Cumberland to a 68-61 win over Central Falls in II-North.
 Steven Vasquez and Ryan Murray each had 13 for the Warroirs.

Classical's Terrill Toe scored 28 points with five 3-pointers as the
Purple beat Cranston East, 81-67, in Division I-West. Ismael Batista
added another 21 points as the Purple moved to 10-9 and the Bolt

 D'Asia Allen 13 as Juanita Sanchez improved to 17-0 with a 56-35

Classical carried their 4-point first-half lead to a 60-56 win against
 Cranston West in DI-Central. Kwami Moreno led the Purple with 20
points and Ismael Batista followed with 14 as the moved to 9-8.

Hope (8-9) secured a Division I playoff berth with a 57-49 victory over
 East Providence (5-12) as Wayne Andrews-Clements scored 19 of his
24 points in the second half, leading the Blue Wave.

Daniel Mendez scored a game-high 28 points and Jarrell Lawson
had 22 in leading Central over Cranston East, 82-65. Albert DeRobbio
led the Bolt with 21 points.

Needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, Davies outscored Bishop
Keough 39-21 in the second half and defeated the Kowalas, 57-43, in a
Division III match. The Patriots combined for six 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Flynn
scored a game-high 20 points and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line
down the stretch for the Patriots, who improved to 8-8. Ashley Correa led
 the Kowalas (10-5) with 18 points.

Brendan Daily led Davies, scoring 23 points and was central in
 the Patriots second-half surge where they totaled 38 points as they
went on to beat Mount St. Charles, 58-41, in Division III. Jonathan
Adrade pitched in 14 points in their winning effort as they finished
the season at 4-14. Santino Funaro led the Mounties with 14 points
 in the loss.

Emmanuel Kargbo scored 17 of his 22 points in the second
 half to propel Hope over St. Raphael, 78-71, in Division I-East.
Kargbo and Johnson Weah (24 points) controlled the inside in
the second frame to hold the Saints scoring to 30 points as the
Blue Wave added 43. Wayne Andrews-Clements tallied 23 point
on six 3-pointers for Hope who is 8-9.

Kelsey Evje scored 17 points, Taylor Burns had 12 and Emely Ramirez
added 11 to lead Cranston East (9-7) to an upset victory over Narragansett
(14-2), 52-47, in Division II-South.

Christie Ribeiro's 18 points led Mt. Hope to a 62-41 win against
Cranston East in Division II-South. Emely Ramirez scored a game-high
20 points for the Bolt in their loss. The Huskies improved to 9-7.

Kealon Ives scored 30 points and Ismael Batista scored 25 as
Classical stamped its ticket to the playoffs with a 69-63 win over
Central in Division I-West. The Purple improved its record to 8-8 in
the Division.

Ashley Correa scored 12 points and Carolina Guzman and Suigly
 Mendoza each had 10 in leading Bishop Keough to a 46-24 victory over
 Shea in Division III.

Jordan Pino and Sadie Ross combined to score 38 points and senior
Rebecca Antonelli came off the bench to provide some solid defense
as Scituate outscored Hope by 22 points in the second half en route to
a 65-42 win over the Blue Wave in Division II-North. The Spartans improved
 to 10-4 on the season.

Jamie Lamin led all scorers with 11 points to lead Cranston East to a
 41-35 victory over East Greenwich in Division II-South. Selena Gonzalez
had nine points and Kelsey Evje and Emely Ramirez each finished
with eight for the Bolt, who improved to 8-6. The Avengers fell to 8-7.

Central had four players score in double figures led by Daniel Mendez,
who scored 15 points, as the Knights defeated Woonsocket, 67-45.
Jarrell Lawson and Brownell Dennis each had 11 points and Raikwon
Rodrigues added 10 for the Knights. Cody L'Heureux was the high
scorer for the Villa Novans with 15 points.

Juanita Sanchez freshman D'Asia Allen matched her season-high
with 27 points and also had 5 assists as the undefeated Cavaliers
14-0) showed that they are the cream of the crop in Division III,
beating second-place Middletown (12-3), 67-46. Ironically, the last
time Allen scored 27 points was against the Islanders. Teammates
 Sandy Kun had 20 points and 6 steals and Shaila Senior Cole
finished with 8 points, 16 rebounds and 4 steals. The Islanders led
 18-6 at the start before the Cavaliers took over.

Fourth place Davies brought home an overtime victory against third
seeded Burrillville, 76-68, in Division III-North. Brendan Daily (29 points)
 tied the game at 64-all with a layup with 3 seconds on the clock to push
the game into o.t. Daily made the difference in overtime as well, scoring
 seven of the Patriots 12 points in the extra frame.

Classical upset La Salle, 61-54, in a Division I crossover matchup.
Ismael Batista and Terrill Toe each scored 16 points and Kwami Moreno
had 15 boards to go along with his 11 points to lead the Purple who are
7-7. Tommy Hunt had a game-high 22 points for the Rams who dropped
 to 11-7.

Rob Hazard had 36 and Mike Ferrante added 23 to lead North Providence
 to a 84-57 win over Central Falls in a Division II crossover game. Ryan
Murray
had 22 points and Clifton Johnson added 16 for the Warriors.

Dennis Wilson scored 20 points and cleaned the glass for 6 rebounds
in Hope's 66-46 win over South Kingstown in a Division I crossover.
The Blue Wave iprove to 5-8 on the season.

Davida Dale and Priscilla Dunfhy each had 10 points to lead La Salle
to a 62-15 win over Pilgrim in I-South. Danielle LeBlanc had 10 points
for the Patriots.

Bishop Keough trailed by eight points in the first half and took its
first lead with three minutes remaining en route to a 50-44 victory
over Block Island in Division III. Ashley Correa led the Kowalas
with 18 points. Teammates Suigley Mendoza and Carolina Guzman
had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Block Island freshman Kiley Hall
 scored a game-high 19 points. The Kowalas improve to 8-4 with
 the win while the Hurricanes fall to 2-13.

Tommy Hunt scored a game-high 29 points, including six 3-pointers,
 and Mike Clark had 22 in leading La Salle to an 83-77 victory over
 Central in a match between Division I contenders. The Rams had a
four-point lead with around a minute remaining when Hunt drained a
 three to give his team a seven-point cushion en route to victory. Jared
Thompson chipped in with 12 points for the Rams. The Knights had
four players in double figures led by Jarrell Lawson, who scored 27
points. Teammates Raikwon Rodrigues scored 17 points,
Daniel Mendez had 13 and Brownell Dennis added 10. The
Rams improve to 14-2 overall and 11-2 in the division with the
 win while Central slips to 10-4 and 10-13.

Scituate overcame a 10-point deficit midway through the second half
and edged Central, 55-54. Julia Corsi had 12 points and 12 rebounds
 and teammate Sadie Ross finished with 11 points, and 11 rebounds.

Emely Ramirez and Kelsey Evje combined for 29 points to lead
Cranston East to a 52-47 win against West Warwick on Division II-South
and improve to 7-6.

Kwami Moreno and Ismael Batista combined for 41 points as
Classical beat Woonsocket, 69-53, in Division I. Woonsocket's
Cody L'Hereoux led the Villa Novans with 20 points, feeding in four
3-pointers.

and Emmanuel Kargbo scored 18 points
 apiece to lead Hope to a 67-63 victory over Coventry. Aaron Greenwood
scored a game-high 26 points for the Oakers.

Smithfield went on a 16-2 run late in the second half, mostly on
shooting by Jarrell Lawson (19 points) and Daniel Mendez (18 points),
 to go up by five with 30 seconds left in the game, as they went on to
beat Central, 53-64, and move to 10-1.

Scituate, trailing 23-21 at halftime, started the second with a half-court
 press to take control and went on to defeat Tolman, 53-44. Julia Corsi
had 18 points and Sadie Ross 16 to lead the Spartans. Tolman's Danai
Porter scored a game-high 27 points.

La Salle's Davida Dale had 10 points and 12 rebounds and teammate
Dakota Dailey-Harris had 12 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't
enough as Andover H.S., Massachsetts' defending state champion
defeated the Rams, 66-57. La Salle trailed by seven points at halftime
and was able to tie the score at 33-33 in the third quarter. But
Andover went on a 14-0 run thereafter to take control en route to victory.

D'Asia Allen drained three from outside the arc as she totaled 17
 points to lead Juanita Sanchez to a 49-27 win over Davies in Division
III. Sandy Kun followed with 13 points and the Cavaliers remain
undefeated at 12-0. Kaitlyn Flynn and Waleska Kelly each scored 10
points for the Patriots.

Emely Ramirez scored 18 points to lead Cranston East to a 59-42
win against Warwick Vets in Division II-South. Zoeigh Rodriguez and
Kelsey Evje combined for another 27 points for the Bolt to go to 6-6.

Sadie Ross and Julia Corsi each registered a double-double,
Ross with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Corsi with 11 points
and 10 boards to lead Scituate to a 45-40 win over Burrillville in II-North.
 Victoria Libby had 14 points and Ashley Spear scored 10 for the Broncos.
The Spartan improve to 8-3 and the Broncos fall to 8-4.

Emily Ramirez poured in 21 points to lead Cranston East to a 51-41
win over Toll Gate in Division II-South. The Thunder Bolt improve to 5-5
 on the year.

Warwick Vets overcame a 17-point deficit in the first half by scoring
55 second-half points for a 73-67 victory over Davies in Division III.
Domenic Malaga scored 21 points and Scott Camara followed
with 20 to lead the Hurricanes. Brendan Daily scored a game-high
25 points for the Patriots. Vets improved to 2-7 with the win.

Priscilla Dunphy had 16 points and Ariel Etheridge and Davida Dale
each added 12 to lead La Salle to a 68-19 win over Cranston West in
I-South. Ailis Hanley had six points for the Falcons.

Julia Corsi had a team-high 17 points to lead Scituate to a 59-47
nonleague victory over Warwick Vets. Teammate Jordan Pino had
four 3-pointer's while scoring another 15 points and Sadie Ross

Case girls rally to beat Bourne

SWANSEA — The Joseph Case High School girls' basketball team
just kept getting better and better as the game went on against Bourne
on Friday and the result was a come from behind 49-44 win.
Bourne led, 17-6, after the first quarter, 25-17 at the half and
40-30 after three quarters, before the Lady Cardinals erupted in
the final quarter. "It was outstanding," Case coach Dave Silva
said of the effort of his players. "Once we got out of the first quarter,
we were able to play with them in the second and third quarters
and in the fourth quarter, we just took it to another level." In the last
eight minutes, Case hit Bourne with two or three different types of
presses that helped to create turnovers and easy baskets for the
 Lady Cardinals. Five different players from the Case team scored
in the fourth quarter, including freshman guard/forward Kaylee Oliver
 who had all nine of her points in the quarter. Case scored its points
 in the last quarter on a combination of outside shooting, penetration
and transition baskets. Sousa hit two clutch free throws at the end
of regulation to make it a two-possession game and sewed up the
victory for her team.

Jerel Rodrigues and Jonathan Andrade each contributed 22 points
towards Davies 80-61 win over Fatima in Division III. Brendan Daily
pitched in another 18 points for the Patriots who are 2-4. Brian McParlin
scored a game-high 24 points for the Tigers in their loss.

Eli Itkin's 24 points propelled Shea over Narragansett, 71-48, in
Division II. Itkin dropped three 3-pointers and The Raiders improve
to 6-2 and the Mariners are 3-5.

Freshman D'Asia Allen scored 20 points, pulled down five boards and added
four assists to lead undefeated Juanita Sanchez to a 52-31 win over North
Smithfield in Division III. The Cavaliers, now 6-0, were also helped out by a
strong performance from Shaila Cole, who scored 12 points and grabbed
10 rebounds.

added 10 points and five rebounds to lead La Salle to a 74-38 win over Portsmouth.
Sam Turcotte had 12 points and Jamie Hole had 10 for the Patriots.

Allen D'Asia scored 27 points to lead Juanita Sanchez over Middletown, 53-24.

Jordan Pino hit a three pointer with 14 seconds left to go in the game and
that proved to be the difference in the game as Scituate defeated Johnston,
57-54, in II-North. Pino finished with 21 points and teammate Sadie Ross
added 14. The Panthers' Karina Mattera led all scorers with 22 points.

Classical survived an extra frame against Hope for a 57-50 final in Division I.
Ismael Batista led the way with 20 points and Terrill Toe followed with 13. The
Purple are 4-2.

Jarrell Lawson had a game-high 22 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4
steals and Daniel Mendez added 19 points to lead unbeaten Central past Hope, 69-55.

Cranston East and Cranston West battled to the end with the Bolt coming out on
top, 48-46, in Division I-Central. East managed to drop in four three-pointers
and an extra basket that was the difference.Chris Kpahn and Albert DeRobbio
each scored 10 points with a three-pointer apiece for the Bolt. Tevin Goins tallied
a game-high 18 points and Konner Gershkoff added 16 points for the Falcons.

Central Falls survived a late surge by Chariho that pushed the game into overtime
as they bettered the Chargers, 10-6, in the extra frame for a 64-60 win in Division II.
Clifton Johnson's 16 points led the Warriors offense. Kyle Eva was Chariho's
leading scorer with 14 points, followed by Kyle Driscoll with 13. Central Falls is 3-1.

Central, behind the hot shooting of Danny Mendez, knocked off Classical, 81-69,
in Division I West. Mendez scored 22 points and hit four from behind the
three-point arc. Raikwon Rodrigues and Jarrell Lawson each added 18 points for
the Knights. Kealan Ives and Kwami Moreno scored 18 apiece for the Purple.

 had eight points and Jose Santana had seven for the Cavaliers.

Chad Fair had 12 points and Connor Bouchard had 10 points to lead Smithfield
 to a 45-38 win over Mt. Pleasant in I-North. Edward Cooper and JayJuan Monteiro
and Zdahmond Dale each had eight points for the Kilties.

Warwick's 53-35 win over Cranston East in II-South. Kelsey Evje had 15 points
and Emely Ramirez had 14 points for the Bolt.

Evje dropped in two three-pointers, as did Emely Ramirez who was right behind Evje
with 12 points on the night. The Bolt improved to 2-1.

Davitta (Davida) Dale with 11 points and Priscilla Dunphy with 10. Courtney
Lambrese and Alicia McGuinness each scored 11 points for the Falcons in the loss.

Emely Ramires (Ramirez) scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in the second
half to helf Cranston East overcome a 29-23 halftime deficit and edge Cranston
West, 53-52. Ramires also had 11 assists - 7 in the second half. Also reaching
double figures for the Bolt were Zoeigh Rodriguez with 13 points and Kelsey Evje
with 10. Ailis Hanley led the Falcons with 12 points.
